  • [01] 'No' vote will restart the negotiation on Monday, gov't spokesman says

"The 'No' vote in the referendum will restart the negotiation on Monday. Based on the unity of the Greek people and the rejection of the ultimatums, the Greek government will negotiate with better terms," government spokesman Gavriil Sakellaridis on Thursday said.

Sakellaridis noted that "the Greek government has given a difficult battle so that pensions are not reduced" adding that five years of memoranda led to pensions cuts of 14 billion euros which, however, were not enough for creditors and the domestic troika.

"As days go by, more and more people understand the reality. More and more break the fear, close their ears to the unprecedented propaganda, do not succumb to blackmail," he concluded.

[02] Tsipras must remain in his position even people vote 'Yes' in referendum, Parliament VP Mitropoulos says

ANA/MPA---"The Prime Minister must remain in his position even if the vote is 'Yes' to the measures," Parliament Vice President Alexis Mitropoulos on Thursday said in statements to Mega TV.

"If the Greeks vote 'No', a new round of negotiations will start without the harsh measures," he underlined.

Referring to the referendum, he said that "as we come towards the end of the program, I think it would be better to have been avoided."

[03] ND leader Samaras: 'The government lied and bankrupted the country'

ANA - MPA -- Main opposition leader Antonis Samaras strongly criticized Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in a brief televised address on Wednesday, blaming him for the closing of Greece's banks.  "He didn't have the bravery to admit he's the one who signed to close the banks and that he didn't dare admit that he submitted an austerity proposal, similar to the one of Greece's creditors," the leader of New Democracy (ND) said.

"The government lied to everyone and eventually bankrupted the country! We're left hanging while losing 35 billion euros in EU funds which were earmarked for our country after the sacrifices of the people!" Samaras noted, adding that now Tsipras is "begging for a new memorandum, while for months he said he wouldn't sign one."

Samaras noted that Greece finds itself today in the worst position of the last decades, without a European safety net, with closed banks, "while it is having trouble fulfilling its basic obligations towards it citizens". He said the country has not been isolated from its partners and called on Greeks to vote "Yes" in Sunday's referendum.

[04] NBG and Eurobank accept deposits from Thursday

As of Thursday Greeks will be able to make deposits and payments in 289 branches of the National Bank of Greece (NBG)and 174 branches of Eurobank which operate during the bank holiday. At the same time, they can deposit cash without an envelope in 677 ATMs, which will be immediately available as well as in another 130 ATMs with an envelope, in which the amount will be credited the next business day.

More specifically, NBG informs individuals and companies that during the period of short-term bank holiday until July 6, 2015, the National Bank accepts cash deposits.

As of Thursday, July 2, 2015, the network of 289 branches of National Bank operating during the bank holiday for the payment of pensions will also accept deposits and applications for new debit cards. Payments on deposit accounts abroad will also be made by special orders.

[05] FinMin Varoufakis: If 'yes' prevails, I will resign

ANA/MPA---Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said that in case 'yes' prevails in the referendum he will resign in an interview with Bloomberg on Thursday.

He stated that "if 'yes' prevails, I will not be Finance Minister on Monday evening" adding however, that he is eager to contribute whoever undertakes the responsibility to navigate the country's debt crisis.

Varoufakis said that he expects from the Greek voters to follow the government's recommendation and to reject the institutions' rescue proposals which, as he said, will demand further tax increases and spending cuts in exchange for continued aid.

"I rather cut my arm off than sign a new deal that does not restructure the public debt," Varoufakis stated.

"What we are saying to the Greek people is "no more extend and pretend" Varoufakis said. "We want to reform this country...but we want to do it in the context of debt restructure."

[06] Varoufakis: Greece's lenders say government's proposal is on right path

ANA - MPA -- Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said on Wednesday that Greece's creditors told him the government's proposal in on the right direction, but that they are requesting more data on its fiscal results.

Asked by a journalist outside the finance ministry, he said that "under no circumstances will there be a bail-in."  He also specified that what separates the government and the institutions is "only the sustainability of Greek debt."

The minister made the statement after the end of the Eurogroup teleconference earlier in the evening which lasted about an hour.

Statements are expected to be issued by its chief, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, in a video, according to his Twitter account. The teleconference was attended by Varoufakis and Alternate Minister for International Economic Relations Euclid Tsakalotos. Tsakalotos said the Eurogroup is not expected to reconvene until Sunday's referendum.
