  • [01] Dijsselbloem: It will be a difficult meeting

ANA/MPA---"It will be a difficult meeting" said Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijsselbloem upon his arrival to the Eurogroup meeting on Saturday.

As he said "some ministers keep reservations regarding the Greek proposals as well as if they can trust the Greek side".

Eurogroup chief also noted "we have not reached at the point of agreement and the Finance Ministers will examine today if the Greek side's proposed measures are satisfactory and if there is commitment, seriousness in order the lost trust to be restored".

[02] Italian FM Padoan: We will do whatever possible to reach an agreement

ANA-MPA/"The road will not be easy but we will do whatever possible" state Italian Finance Minister Pier Paolo Padoan upon his arrival to the Eurogroup meeting and said that today's meeting will be long.

[03] ND spokesman: The only discussion that concerns ND is the country to remain in the eurozone

ANA/MPA---Main opposition New Democracy (ND) spokesman Costas Karagounis on Saturday stated that "The only discussion that concerns ND at the moment, as well as all the other citizens, is an agreement to be reached in order the country to remain in the eurozone". Karagounis also noted that "this is and the message of the parliament with the strong mandate to the prime minister to close the deal".

[04] German FinMin: I can't see it easy to have a result today

I can't see how easy we will have a result in today's Eurogroup, stated German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble upon his arrival to the Eurogroup meeting.

We have difficult deliberations ahead of us and there are financials gaps. We are talking about a new 3-year programme, said Schaeuble adding that «according to the European Treaties we know there can't be a haircut of the Greek debt"

The German Finance Minister also said that at the Eurogroup meeting they will explain that they have done everything but the Greeks have not done everything to build the trust betweem them.

[05] French FM Sapin: Successful result is necessary for all

ANA/MPA---"France's role is to unite" stated French Finance Minister Michel Sapin adding that a successful result is necessary for all. Sapin recognised two substantial points of progress. Firstly, the Greek government with 'political determination' and 'courage' asked and received the Greek parliament's approval to start the negotiations. Secondly, the institutions said that the Greek proposals "constitute a good basis for the start of the negotiations'.

The French minister underlined that further explanations from the Greece side will be requested regarding when and how the government will proceed with the reforms. Afterwards, he said, and if the trust has been restored, they will offer the necessary support to Greece "The trust was not lost only because of the current government. I was lost and with all the previous Greek governments".

Regarding the Greek debt, Sapin said that France always had a specific position that the discussion for the debt is not a taboo and that there can't be a cancellation of its nominal value because the other state members do not want it.
