[01] The Greek agenda to be discussed at EU Summit on migration on
Thursday
An EU Summit that will mostly focus on the migration issue will take
place on Thursday in Brussels.
The main issue of the summit will be the fulfillment of Greece's
obligations towards Europe with the establishment of hot spots on
five Greek islands as well as the issues that Greece has raised to
Europe. These issues concern the resettlement of refugees in European
countries and their relocation in other EU countries. Another important
issue of interest to Greece and for which Europe has not yet taken
initiatives, concerns, according to the same sources, the fact that a
significant number of refugees (except for Syrians) are Afghans from war
zones and for whom the refugee status should be recognized. The Greek
agenda also includes compensatory actions (technical and financial
support) that will be taken by Europe in order to support the islands
which form the main refugee gateways as well as the disbursement of
additional EU funds. The operational management of the refugee issue,
the coordination of the ministries, and the country's positions at the
summit have also been examined in the recent ministerial meetings
