[01] Belgium's Fluxys expresses interest in stake for natgas grid operator
Belgian gas pipeline operator Fluxys has informed the Greek government
that it is interested in buying a stake in the Greece-based gas grid
operator DESFA from SOCAR, after the completion of the sale of 66 pct
to the Azeri state energy firm.
The development came on Friday during a meeting between company
representatives with the relevant Greek energy minister, Panos Skourletis,
during a meeting in Brussels. The meeting was also attended by the
Belgian ambassador to Greece, Luc Liebaut.
The sale to SOCAR has been delayed as is has run into opposition from
the European Commission's competition directorate. Involved parties
reportedly consider that objections could be overcome if a portion of
DESFA's shares are sold to a European company.
Representatives of Fluxys – in which the Belgium state holds a
significant stake – also noted the company's extensive experience in
managing natural gas networks in many European countries.
