[01] PM Tsipras calls for 'global shift to a climate-friendly, sustainable
society' at COP21
Greece's Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, in his address to the COP21
Climate Change Conference in Paris on Monday, said the summit should
be a historic turning point for a "global shift to a climate-friendly,
sustainable society."
"Greece, which at this time is experiencing an unprecedented refugee
crisis and human despair, gives political priority to prevent climate
change displacement risk," he said, expressing hope that the leaders in
Paris will rise to the challenge and "not allow future generations to
accuse us of not seizing the opportunity."
[02] EU's Costello: Greek bank deposits no longer at risk of 'haircut
Greek bank deposits are no longer in risk of a "haircut", the European
Commission's mission chief to Greece Declan Costello said on Monday
during a speech at an annual business forum in Athens.
Speaking at "The Greek economy" conference, Costello also noted that
although it is difficult to give an answer as to when capital controls
will be lifted, a successful bank recapitalization and program review
will speed up the process.
The EU official also said a debt relief is possible under conditions and
when asked about reports claiming there will be an increase in employer
contributions to social security, Costello replied this would not help the
creation of new jobs and that the reforms must be seen in their entirety.
The conference is organized by the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce.
[03] Corruption minister holds meeting on German list of 10,000-plus
Greeks with cash abroad
Alternate Justice Minister for Corruption issues Dimitris Papaggelopoulos
on Monday chaired a second meeting on the so-called "Borjan's List" -
a list of 10,588 bank accounts belonging to Greeks at a Swiss branch
of UBS, with total deposits amounting to 6.5 billion euros, supplied
to Greece by the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Participants in Monday's meeting included the Financial Prosecutor
Panagiotis Athanassiou, the prosecutors that were part of a working
group working on the agreement with North Rhine-Westphalia and officials
from the justice and finance ministries. The participants discussed
cooperation between the various sides involved in the handling of the
case, while the financial prosecutor asked for additional support.
