  • [01] Greek refiner ELPE signs deal with Iran's NIOC for crude oil deliveries

Greek refiner Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE) and Iran's national oil company NIOC reached a long-term agreement for the immediate start of crude oil deliveries to Greece, the company announced on Friday.

ELPE will purchase 25 pct of their needs from NIOC and settle an estimated 550-650 million euros in debt repayable over four years. The debt resulted from the sanctions imposed on Iran in 2011. This is the first deal made by Iran following the lifting of the international embargo.

"The management of Hellenic Petroleum is pleased about this agreement, which is to the benefit of both sides and, as it is noted, was achieved after repeated meetings in Athens and Tehran," the company said.

[02] FYROM authorities again bar passage to refugees at Idomeni

ANA-MPA -- Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) authorities again barred the passage of refugees through the Greece-FYROM border at Idomeni, starting at 6:00 on Friday morning. According to sources, the decision was made in order to ease overcrowding at the refugee transit camp in Gevgelija, which is full.

As a result, more than 1,000 refugees have been left trapped on the Greek side of the border. At 16:00 on Friday afternoon, there were 400 refugees at the transit camp at Idomeni and another 700 were waiting on board 14 coaches at the fuel station where coaches stop so that the refugees' documents can be inspected.
