  • [01] PM Tsipras to have series of meetings at the Maximos mansion

ANA/MPA---Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will have a series of meetings with his close associates probably on Wednesday at the Maximos mansion .

The meetings will focus on the completion of the negotiations on the review of the Greek programme ahead of the Eurogroup meeting on May 9.

According to government's sources, the Greek government will seek, in the next days, to boost the country's negotiation position and to promote the support expressed by several European governments against IMF's demands for in priori legislation of specific measures.

The same sources noted the strong support expressed by European socialists towards the Greek government.

[02] Greece to return to growth in H2 2016, Commission report says

BRUSSELS (ANA-MPA/M. Aroni and Ch. Vassilaki)---The Greek economy will return to growth in the second half of 2016, according to European Commission's spring report released on Tuesday.

In its report for Greece, the European Commission noted that the Greek economy showed remarkable durability in 2015.

According to the report, growth is expected in H2 2016 and to further improve in 2017 due to the restoration of the trust and the restructuring reforms. It also noted that the fiscal gap is expected to further decline after the improved fiscal figures of 2015 and the completion of the 5.4 billion euros fiscal package.

Referring to the unemployment the Commission's report said that it will continue to drop throughout the forecast period.

However, the Commission underlined that the insecurity is still high and that the expected recovery of the Greek economy is closely linked with the on time completion of the first review and the positive reaction of the financial markets.

[03] Moscovici appears cautiously optimistic over agreement at Eurogroup meeting

BRUSSELS (ANA-MPA/Ch. Vassilaki)---European Commissioner for Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici appeared cautiously optimistic over a possible agreement at Monday's Eurogroup during the presentation of the European Commission's spring report. "All sides wish Greece to return to growth and to create jobs for the young people" noted Moscovici adding that Greece is at the forefront and on the refugees issue and is very important this agreement to be reached.

"It is in the eurozone and Greece's interest" said Moscovici who avoided to answer a question whether the Commission's improved forecast for Greece will affect the negotiations with the IMF on the package of back up measures.

Asked if he expects an agreement to be reached, he appeared cautiously optimistic underlining that the pending issues are not 'so easy'. "The Commission's position is that an agreement should be reached as soon as possible" he said underlining that it is something 'possible' and 'feasible'.

Finally, on the main package of fiscal measures, the Commissioner reiterated that huge progress has been made.
