  • [01] PM Tsipras: France supported Greece at the period of hard negotiations

    Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' meeting with his French counterpart Manuel Valls at the Maximos mansion focused on Greece-France's bilateral relations.

    After their meeting and the signing of the roadmap of Greece-France's strategic partnership relation, the premier referred to France's stance in the period Greece's harsh negotiations with its lenders and underlined that the French government stood by Greece and the Greek people and resisted to blackmails and extremities which set the eurozone in danger.

    Referring to the recent Eurogroup decision, Tsipras said that it "marks a new start for the Greek economy" and the decision for the debt relief which "constitutes a significant step towards the restoration of the markets and investors' trust" a trust that will be become stronger after the necessary radical reforms for the restart of the economy and growth.

    Referring to Greece-France's cooperation, Tsipras said that we set the priorities in sectors regarding the investments in infrastructure, energy, tourism, research, public administration, know-how and culture.

    Both officials agreed their cooperation towards a more democratic and social Europe to intensify. They also discussed the regional developments and the refugees issue for which the prime minister noted that France holds the first place in the refugee relocations from Greece.

    "I came to Greece bringing a message: France is on Greece's side," stated French prime minister Manuel Valls during his joint statements with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday after the end of their meeting at the Maximos mansion.

    The French prime minister sent a message to French investors saying "come to invest in Greece" and expressed his trust to the Greek government that "it will proceed with the reforms."

    Valls said that a year ago some believed that Greece has no position in the eurozone and underlined French President Francois Hollande's contribution to avoid it.

    "A eurozone without Greece, a Schengen Treaty without Greece, represents another perception for Europe which we do not share", said Valls adding taht the EU loan tranche will be disbursed soon and expressed the hope a solution to be found for the Greek debt.

    [03] The story of warship Averof unveiled in journalist John Carr's book

    British journalist John Carr's book "RHNS Averof-Thunder in the Aegean" was presented on Thursday at an event held on the warship Averof which one century after its construction is still afloat and moored at the Flisvos marina in Faliro.

    The author said that is the first book that includes the whole story of the warship Averof and was initially written for the British audience and its translation in Greek was held later.

    He also referred to the warship's operations during the first Balkan wars, the Battle of Cape Helles (3 Dec 1912) where Averof inflicted heavy casualties on the Turkish fleet, following it up with a victory in the Battle of Lemnos (5 Jan 1913).

    Finally, Carr referred to the Greek-Turkish relations and called the Greek state to seek and reconsider ways to defend its sovereign rights which must "rely on its own powers...the tourists are not interested whether the island is Greek or Turkish. They are only interested in the sea and the sun," he said.
