BRUSSELS (ANA-MPA/M.Aroni) - European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker will visit Athens on June 21.

Juncker will meet with Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, European Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said in a press briefing on Friday.

More details on Juncker's visit to Athens will be announced next week.

[02] EU Commission not to change guidelines on shipping, Commissioner Bulc says

European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc on Friday expressed the clear position that the European Commission does not intend to change the existing guidelines regarding the taxation of shipping activities.

Bulc gave a press conference together with the presidency of the Union of Greek Shipowners.

"The Commission is aware of the improtance of tonnage tax for Greece and other EU member states and is not considering to change the guidelines on the issue," she underlined.

Bulc outlined the Commission's priorities in the shipping sector. "Shipping is a global activity and for this reason we are in contact with the International Maritime Organization (IMO)," she said.

Among the Commission's priorities is the emphasis on technological developments, the protection of the environment and security in shipping.

In this context the European Commission is promoting better digitization conditions for a single European transport market, and better potential for investments. It will also announced the creation of a special electronic trading platform for the maritime sector, at a conference in Rotterdam in June.
