[01] Police completes evacuation of 1,158 refugees from gas station
near Polykastro
Police completed on Monday evening the evacuation of 1,158 refugees from
the makeshift camp at the PATHE gas station, located near Polykastro,
central Macedonia, which had started early this morning.
The refugees, mostly Syrians, had packed their belongings and boarded the
busses freely, police said. They were transferred to the accommodation
centre of Vasilika. The motorway, which had been closed in the section
between the Agios Athanasios junction and Polykastro turn to allow for
the move, was reopened to traffic.
On Tuesday, police will evacuate two more makeshift camps in the area
– one formed in a gas station near the borders with FYROM and another
in a hotel, near Evzones.
