On her side, the German Chancellor described the situation in Europe "critical" after the result of the British referendum, but also because of other difficulties, but stated that the 27 leaders agreed to tackle the issues and give a new impetus to the EU by March 2017. Both leaders also expressed their support for the priorities set by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in his recent speech in the European Parliament on the state of the European Union.
