  • [01] Tsipras to meet Merkel, Hollande, Juncker on Friday in Brussels

    Prime Minister AlexisTsipras will meet with the French President Francois Hollande, at 10.00 (Athens time). At 10.30, he will meet with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the sidelines of the EU summit in Brussels.

    The time of the meeting with the president of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker is not available yet.

    Meetings will focus on the second programme review and the Greek debt.

    BRUSSELS (ANA/ M. Aroni) - The statement of European Parliament President Martin Schulz "I was surprised" did not refer to the Greek position on debt, but to the question itself, a spokesman of the EU Parliament chief explained.

    "During the press conference that followed the speech of European Parliament President Martin Schulz, the president was asked on his meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. Schulz was surprised with the way the question of whether the European Parliament will act on the issue of the Greek debt relief was expressed. Schulz was not surprised with the position of the Greek government and does not disagree with it. He added that if a discussion on debt takes place, it will do so in the Economic and Monetary Affairs committee of the European Parliament," his spokesman stated.

    [03] Greek gov't, institutions begin talks on second review of Greek program

    Greek authorities and the institutions officially began negotiations on a second review of the Greek program on Friday, with a meeting between Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and the heads of the technical staff of the institutions.

    The meeting will focus on a new privatization fund and state arrears to the private sector. Today's agenda of talks also include issues related with education, corruption and energy which will be discussed with related ministers.

    The Greek government's economic team seeks to conclude negotiations on a second review of the program by December 5, when a Eurogroup meeting is scheduled, to pave the way for decisions on debt relief and the country's inclusion in an ECB's QE program and the participation of the IMF in the program. Completion of a second review of the program will also disburse a loan tranche worth 6.1 billion euros.

    [04] EU Commissioner Avramopoulos to participate in G6 on migration, security, terrorism

    EU Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos is visiting Rome to participate in G6 summit.

    The summit will focus on migration, security, terrorism and cyber security.

    The interior ministers of Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, the UK and the United States Secretary of Homeland Security participate in the meeting.

    It will also be attended by representatives of EUROPOL, the European Support Office Asylum (EASO), the European Border Guard and Coast Guard (EBCG), the UNHCR for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and INTERPOL.

    [05] Greece will not achieve debt relief without new harsh measures, KKE's Koutsoumbas says

    Greece will not achieve debt relief without new harsh measures, communist party KKE secretary general Dimitris Koutsoumbas on Friday said in statements to ANT1 TV.

    Koutsoumbas also expressed certainty that Greece would sign a fourth memorandum and accused the government of "big lies."

    He did not rule out the possibility of early elections and called on people to protest. "The people can build a new society and a new state," he stressed.

    Referring to the recent statements of Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he said that they are extremely dangerous adding that Ankara has a specific political plan and intentions.
