  • [01] Conference of Parliamentary Committees presidents on Monday to form NCRTV

    The conference of presidents of Parliamentary Committees will convene on Monday, at 17.00, to attempt to reach consensus and form a new National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV), following the government's decision to propose a former minister that served in a main opposition New Democracy government, Vyron Polydoras, to head the Council.

    "We will know tonight what will happen," the President of the Parliament Nikos Voutsis said.

    On his part, Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos said that "in the meeting we will see whether there is consensus on the formation of a National Council for Radio and Television."

    [02] Katrougalos: The government will not accept IMF's demand for unfavorable labour changes

    The IMF is asking for unfavorable changes in the social security system, but we will not accept them, Labour Minister Giorgos Katrougalos on Monday said in statements to ANT1 TV.

    "The IMF has extreme views, but we do not concede," he underlined adding that the social security issue has closed from the first programme review.

    He reiterated that the government has avoided the horizontal cuts on pensions and explained that only 220,000 or 10 pct of pensioners were affected.

    Finally, Katrougalos reassured that the government will proceed with corrective measures for free-lancers and scientists as regards their insurance fees.

    [03] Defence Min Kammenos receives newly appointed US ambassador Pyatt

    Defence Minister Panos Kammenos received on Monday newly appointed US ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt.

    Matters concerning cooperation in defence as well as the developments in the wider region dominated the meeting of the two officials.

    They also referred to US president Barack Obama's imminent visit to Athens.

    [04] EU Commissioner Oettinger's visit to Athens postponed

    European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Günther Oettinger's visit to Athens on Monday was postponed, according to an an announcement by the European Commission representation office to Greece on Monday.

    [05] 148 refugees and migants arrived on Samos; no arrivals recorded on Chios and Lesvos

    No migrants or refugees arrived on the northern Aegean islands, with only exemption the island of Samos where 148 persons arrived, in the last four days.

    According to police, the number of migrants and refugees that have sought asylum and remain trapped on the Greek islands on Monday reached 11,789.
