Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, who inaugurated the Greek Institute
of Thracian Research in Alexandroupolis, sent a message to Turkey that
Greece seeks good relations, but in matters concerning our national
laws and the application of international law, it is not possible to
have retreats, setbacks, or negotiations.
"I want to remind to Turkey that not only do we seek good relations,
but we are also sending the message that in these turbulent times,
Greece is the door and the window to the West and the EU, and we are
ready to keep that door and window open. We proved that because we were
the first ones in the puzzled West, and perhaps for several hours, that
supported the democratic legitimacy in the neighboring Turkey during the
recent coup attempt. But as far as it concerns our national laws and the
application of international law, it is not possible to have retreats,
setbacks, or negotiations, " Pavlopoulos underlined.
Referring to the Lausanne Treaty, he said that it is "valid and
non-negotiable."
[02] New Democracy accuses Tsipras of lies and audacity
Main opposition New Democracy (ND) in an announcement on Saturday
accused Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of lies and audacity.
"He is the politician who deceived the Greek people and particularly the
middle class and the weakest ones," it said. "He is responsible for the
third and unnecessary memorandum which has serious consequences on the
economy and the society," it added and continued: "And now instead of
taking advantage of New Democracy's responsible stance with its positive
proposals for the reduction of primary surpluses and the promotion of
national targets at all levels, it is trying to make black white."
In such critical times, it continues to show incompetence, inefficiency,
irresponsibility and be hostage of his party interests, it stated. "If it
cannot avoid a fourth memorandum, it should eventually leave. It should
stop transferring his own responsibilities to the main opposition. The
only service has to offer in the country is to resign."
