  • [01] PM Tsipras: Obama's visit was a strong message of support

U.S President Barack Obama's visit to Greece was a strong message of support to our country, to the government and to our efforts to get the country out of the crisis, stated Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras during his address to SYRIZA parliamentary group on Wednesday.

He noted that Obama's visit also sent a strong message of support to Democracy, to the individual rights in a period that the rise of the extreme right is threatening.

He also underlined that the same visit sent the message that Greece is not a country to avoid as it was in the disastrous period 2010-2015.

[02] The rhetoric of revisionism is unthinkable, FM Amanatidis says

"The rhetoric in relation to revisionism is for us unthinkable," said Foreign Minister Yiannis Amanatidis in statements to Kokkino radio station on Wednesday adding that "we promote the position of our country as a factor of stability in the region."

Amanatidis was asked on Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan's statements regarding the Treaty of Lausanne.

As he said, the treaty has been signed by a lot of countries and added that the support to Greece at an international level is taken for granted. The minister noted that it is a tense period for Turkey's internal affairs.

As regards Albania's statements, he explained that "Greece supported the strengthening of bilateral relations and such statements undermine the confidence climate." In any case," he said, "the protection of the Greek national minority is one of the conditions for the integration of Albania into the EU."

[03] Chef from Rhodes wins European Young Chef award for 2016

Southern Aegean governor Giorgos Hatzimarkos received Stamatis Misomikes, the chef from Rhodes that won 2016 European Young Chef award.

Hatzimarkos congratulated Misomikes for his success which he characterised a very big gift to the region of southern Aegean on its effort to win the title of the Gastronomic Region of Europe.

The Young Chef contest was held on November 14 in the school of Tourism of Barcelona University at Saint Paul de Marres and the Greek chef represented southern Aegean region within the context of its nomination as Gastronomic Region of Europe. Misomikes' dish "Salas, the joy of birth" was made of 19 different ingredients and 19 different herbs from the southern Aegean.

[04] Migrants and refugees' arrivals in Europe significantly lower in 2016

Over 345,000 refugees and migrants arrived in Europe from January to November 20, a figure significantly lower in comparison with the same period in 2015 (883,393).

According to International Migration Organisation data, the largest number of refugees and migrants arrived in Greece and Italy (171,264 and 168,542 respectively).

However, an increase in migrants and refugees deaths was recorded. Approximately 4,655 people died in their attempt to reach Europe when recorded deaths in the same period in 2015 was 3,557. 90 percent of the deaths was during the migrants and refugees attempt to cross the Mediterrenean from north Africa to Italy.
