  • [01] Tsipras: Reform efforts will soon be reflected on the economy

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, addressing a meeting on Thursday for the operation of the investments superfund, stressed that it will contribute to the succesful activation of investments.

The impact of the fund is expected to overcome one billion euros, Tsipras underlined. The fund will contribute to dealing with the pathogenies of the economy and more particularly the migration of young people and scientists, he added.

The fund is an investment platform which will have a multiplier effect on the economy, said the prime minister.

"Greece offers significant investment opportunities," he added.

[02] Greek bank deposits up in 2016, say sources

Deposits to Greek banks increased significantly over the last period, local banking sources said to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

Since the beginning of 2016, 3.5 billion euros have been deposited to the Greek banking system.

The same sources said that deposits are increased by half a million euros every month.

[03] National Council on Foreign Policy meeting on Friday to discuss Cyprus issue

The National Council on Foreign Policy chaired by Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias will convene for second time in 2016 on the Cyprus issue at the Foreign Ministry on Friday.

The discussion will be a follow-up to Kotzias' briefings to the Greek MPs during the meeting of the Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee on 18 November 2016) and to the members of the Hellenic Parliament Friendship Groups on 30 November 2016.

[04] Greece owes a lot to the Diaspora, President Pavlopoulos says

"Greece owes you a lot for your valuable support [...] whenever our Land and our People need it at critical times," Prokopis Pavlopoulos said in a letter to the Greek Diaspora.

The President also underlined that all Greeks will strive "Greece and its people to have the future they deserve. I reiterate with emphasis that we will do so as part of our non-negotiable participation in the European Union and the eurozone. Because it is now common consciousness, and among our partners, that Greece can't consider its existence outside the European Union and the European Union will lose its own identity without Greece."

Finally, the President stressed that in a world where all kinds of inequalities rise, where the existential issue, for Europe and its culture, the refugee issue, has not been solved, Greece is governed by the rule of law that defends the principles and the necessity of welfare state.

[05] Shipbuilding zone problem must be solved, says Shipping Minister Kouroumblis

"All these years Greece is paying the cost of the choices that benefited Germany and not Greece," stated Shipping and Island Policy Minister Panagiotis Kouroumblis to Athens Macedonian News Agency radio "Praktoreio 104.9 FM".

Referring to the ministry's strategic targets, Kouroumblis noted that they will focus on the upgrading of education and on the effort to resolve the problem in the shipbuilding zone and to create job positions because Greece can't be absent from the shipbuilding and ship repair sector.

"There will be huge demand with the change of the use of green energy in ships. We asked from Cosco to support the sector of investments and to try to unburden the shipyards that are a very important sector for the economy", Kouroumblis said.

[06] 41 refugees and migrants arrived on Chios despite the adverse weather conditions
