  • [01] No to a multi-speed Europe, says PM's office for EU and International relations Pavlopoulos

Panagiotis Pavlopoulos, head of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras office for European Union and International relations, expressed his total opposition to a multi-speed Europe.

In an interview with the Athens Macedonian News Agency on Monday, Pavlopoulos pointed out the dangers for the EU future "because we are experiencing every day the conservative backslide to an a la carte Europe, something that no progressive citizen can accept".

In parallel he highlighted Tsipras' position for a Europe of multiple selection and underlined that the dominating political forces in Europe focus, even rhetorically, on a change of EU's architecture to avoid the policy changes. "This Europe can't embrace the new times as many speeds as it changes", he concluded.

[02] Programme review will be delayed, ND parliam. spokesman Tzavaras says

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) parliamentary spokesman Costas Tzavaras in an interview with the Athens Macedonian News Agency's radio station Praktoreio 104,9 FM on Monday estimated that the programme review will be delayed.

Referring to the meeting between New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis and former party leader Evangelos Meimarakis, he said that they may cooperate on New Democracy's common vision.

Moreover, Tzavaras expressed his pessimism over the negotiation. "The government is mainly negotiating with the society in order to accept the new measures and not the institutions."

He also said that the government may delay the conclusion of the programme review estimating that the likely rise of extreme right in Europe ahead of the elections in France and Germany may change the austerity policies.
