  • [01] New Democracy accuses government of implementing poverty plan

Alexis Tsipras' government implements with cynicism the poverty plan for the Greeks," main opposition New Democracy (ND)said on Tuesday following the release of figures on banking accounts confiscations. The press office of the main opposition accused the government of putting additional tax pressure on the citizens resulting in 1,000 confiscations per day. "Those who promised the debt write off, persecute the most helpless citizens. At the same time, the state does not meet its obligations with tragic consequences for the workers and the businesses. They use the money of over-taxation to hire party members to the state, without meritocratic criteria," ND said in its statement.

[02] Court rules against extradition of Turkish military officers

A Greek court of appeals on Tuesday rejected the Turkish authorities' request for the extradition of three of the eight Turkish military officers that illegally entered Greece using a Turkish military helicopter in July 2016, in the aftermath of the failed coup in Turkey.

The court ruled that the three officers will be not extradited and ordered their release.

Turkey has requested the extradition of all eight officers so that they can be tried before a Turkish court. The case of the remaining five officers is still pending.

The Turkish military officers have sought political asylum in Greece and are currently being held at the Olympic Village police station while they wait for the asylum service's decision on their request.
