  • [01] PM Tsipras: We are in the most critical turn of our tenure in the government

    We are in the most critical turn of our tenure, the most critical moment of the implementation of the mandate we received from the Greek people 19 months ago, said Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday addressing SYRIZA parliamentary group on Friday.

    He underlined that we should never forget our target, to get the country out of the memoranda and the sometimes humiliating supervision in the summer of 2018.

    [02] Europe to rejoin with her sister Astypalaea in Brussels on May 6

    Europe will welcome in Brussels on May 6 her mythological sister Astypalaea during a series of events that will be held in the Belgian capital for the Day of Europe.

    The municipality of the island of Astypalaia announced that a delegation from the island headed by Astypalaia vice mayor Maria Kambouri will attend the celebration events that will take place at the offices of the permanent Greek representation to the European Union.

    In Greek mythology, Astypalaea and Europe were the daughters of Phoenix and Perimede. Poseidon fell in love with Astypalaea abducted her and placed her in the middle of the Aegean Sea. Since then Astypalaea or Astypalaia is washed in the blue water of the Aegean Sea with picturesque white stone houses on her back and a Venetian castle for crown.

    The two sisters will rejoin on May 6 to welcome the European citizens at the information pavilion of the Greek representation at the Justus Lipsius building in Brussels.

    [03] 105 refugees and migrants rescued early Friday

    105 refugees were rescued in two different incidents after 7 am on Friday.

    A Romanian vessel of Frontex located and rescued 45 refugees and migrants in the sea region of Keramia, Chios island . Another 60 refugees and migrants were rescued in the sea region of Mytilene airport, Lesvos island.

    According to police, 8,566 people were in camps and other accommodation facilities (3.019 on Lesvos, 3,829 on Chios and 1,718 on Samos) on Friday.
