  • [01] The figures for the Greek economy are encouraging, Digital Policy Min Pappas says

    "The data for the Greek economy are encouraging and the global economic community recognises it," Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information Minister Nikos Pappas said on Friday in Parliament.

    Pappas responded to a question of New Democracy deputy Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou who accused the government of failure in the negotiations, saying that the only ones that do not see the positive figures are "circles of the German Finance Ministry" and New Democracy.

    Moreover, Pappas said that "the programme review is being concluded and we are moving forward."

    [02] New paleontologists meeting at Natural History Museum of Lesvos Petrified forest

    The 2nd international meeting of new paleontologists held at the Natural History Museum of Lesvos Petrified Forest was completed.

    The participants got acquainted with the petrified forest where they were toured by professor Nikos Zouros.

    The schedule also included a tour to the natural volcanic monuments of Lesvos, such as the volcanic crater of Vatoussa, a huge volcano with a diameter of more than 8.5 km. The Vatoussa volcano is connected to the main volcanic activity on Lesvos that occurred 18.5 to 17 million years ago and contributed to the creation of the Lesvos Petrified Forest.

    In the meeting participated professor from Patras University, from the University of Heidelberg, Hacettepe University from Turkey, the Athens University and the Aegean University as well as 100 new paleontologists from all over the world.

    The meeting was organised by the Paleontology Lab of the Geology School of Patras University and the International Union of Paleontologists in cooperation with the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest.

    [03] The government will not accept any solution without debt settlement, Energy Min Stathakis says

    The government will not accept any solution that will not include debt settlement, Environment and Energy Minister Giorgos Stathakis said on Friday in statements to ANT1 TV.

    "We accept any discussion as long as it leads to Greece's participation in the ECB's quantitative easing programme," Stathakis underlined.

    The minister said the fact that Greece met its fiscal surplus targets was very important, adding that it will give a boost to the economy as, among others, it will reduce the borrowing cost of businesses.

    [04] Floriculture investment with the use of geothermal field to be inaugurated on Saturday

    One of the most important investments in floriculture will be inaugurated on Saturday east of the city of Kavala.

    Its operation is completely based on the use and exploitation of the geothermal field of Eratini in the municipality of Nestos.

    The inauguration will held in the presence of Agriculture Minister Vangelis Apostolou, East Macedonia and Thrace regional governor Christos Metios, local officials and professors of agricultural school of universities of northern Greece.

    The investment "selecta one" is the result of the unification of 'selecta hellas' subsidiary of the German company 'selecta one' with the Greek companies "Agrohoum" and Agroflora".

    The cost of the up to date implemented investment reached 7 million euros (first phase) and includes 3.5 hectares of greenhouses. The second phase of the investment includes 2.5 additional hectares with cost 3 million euros.

    The enterprise will produce rooted cuttings of ornamental plants with use of geothermy.

    Speaking to the Athens Macedonian News Agency, the CEO of the company underlined that "the company's product, the rooted cuttings, are 95 -99 pct export product to countries that have the technology and knowhow as Italy, Germany and The Netherlands.
