    [01] Weather forecast

    Sunshine is forecast today in Attica and most parts of the country, turning to scattered cloud on the northern mainland later in the day. Winds northerly, light to strong, turning to very strong in the Aegean.

    In Athens temperatures will range from 20-33 degrees Celcius, in Thessaloniki from 19-30 degrees Celcius and on the islands from 20-30 degrees Celcius.

    [02] Pasok Party Executive Office meets today

    The Pasok Party Executive Office convenes today to examine current political developments in view of the Party's Congress which will be held in mid October. Prime-minister Simitis met yesterday with the secretary of the Organisational Committee, Mihalis Neonakis and discussed procedural issues.

    Mr.Reppas reiterated that there was no question about a goverment reshuffle and underlined that the congress will be a new start for the goverment course.

    In repply to reporters questions in Brussels yesterday following the meeting of the European Socialist Parties Presidium, National Defence Minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos described as "absurd" a goverment reshuffle prior to the party's congress.

    [03] Olympic Committee Vice-president to visit Athens

    Dick Powd, Vice-president of the International Olympics Committee and Zaques Rogues, most important rival in the succesion of Juan Antonio Samaranc, will visit Athens for talks with Olympic Games sponsors. He will also be briefed on the course of preparations for the 2004 Olypic Games by the President of the "Athens 2004 " Organisational Committee Yianna Aggelopoulou.

    [04] Greek Foreign Minister satisfied at the content of talks at the EU-Turkey Association Council

    Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou appeared satisfied at the content of talks during the EU-Turkey Association Council held in Louxembourg. On their part our EU partners brought forward all issues linked to the two sides relations, particularly the Cyprus issue and Greek-Turkish relations.

    Washinghton described as totally absurd November 17th allegation of US involvement in the murder attack of ND deputy.

    In a letter to the daily newspaper Eleftherotipia the November 17th terrorist organisation denied they bombed ND deputy Vasilis Mihaloliakos and accused US secret agents of carrying out the attack to force Greece to pass a tough antiterrorist law.

    In Washinghton, State Department Spokesman Richard Boucher described the allegation that the US was somehow ivolved in an attempted terrorist murder of the ND deputy as "totally absurd".

    [05] ND President visited the port of Pireus

    ND Party President Kostas Karamalis yesterday visited the Port of Pireus. In his statements he said that the first port of the country has many possibilities and prospects but the goverment was unable to solve the problems of the port city and called the people to have faith for a better future.

    The President of the Coalition of the Left and Progress Nikos Konstantopoulos visited Lake Koronia, in Lagada and was briefed on the problems of the area. He criticided the goverment for lack of environmental policy.

    [06] World Day against narcotics

    Dramatic data came to light yesterday " World Day against drugs" which urge a tough combat against white death.

    The number of teenage drug users is on the rise while drug- related deaths are also increasing.

    In the EU the number of drug addicts has taken up nightmare dimension reaching 1.5 million while the drug addicts age has significantly dropped.

    In Greece, at least 2000 youngsters have died the last 13 years while the number of victims under the age of 20 has increased.

    The problem of narcotics will be the focus of today's meeting of competent ministers while the same issue will be discussed at the inner cabinet meeting tomorrow.

    [07] Australian Prime-minister to back the return of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece

    Tens of thousands of signatures for the return of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece collected by Greek-Australians , have covinced Australia's Prime-iister John Howard to bring on the issue during his meeting with his British couterpart Toy Blair at the British Commonwealth Summit to be held in Brisband in October.

    Mr.Howard last year refused to back the request of the Greek- Australian Coucil for the return of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece, but this year impressed by the thousands of signatures and the front page articles in the Greek- Australian press, stated he would personally bring on the issue to Mr.Blair.

    Mr .Howard also said that marathon negotiations between Greece and Australia on the issue of pensions should end with a jointly agreed solution.

    [08] Part-time workers elligible to paid holidays

    Good news for part-time workers who are elligible to paid holidays according to a European Court ruling.

    [09] Oil prices down

    For the sixth consecutive week oil prices go down . As of tomorrow gasoline will drop by 7.5 drs per litter and diezel oil by 3 drs per litter.

    [10] Athens stock market

    Under the pressure of the latest political developments and the world negative climate the equity prices on the Athens stock market continued their fall.

    The general share index ended 2.37% lower to close at 2638.27 points.

    [11] Summer sales

    Summer sales begin on Monday, July 2nd to end on August 31st.
