    [02] Exodus of Athenians

    Athenians are leaving the capital by the hundreds today to spend Christmas in the province.

    Meanwhile, traffic in the national highways is taking place with no particular problems. Vehicles need non-skid chains only in certain mountainous regions in the prefecture of Ahaia, as well as in central and northern Greece.

    Traffic police took extra measures that will last throughout the holiday season to facilitate motorists.

    [03] Shops - Working hours

    Shops will remain open until 6 p.m. today and supermarkets until 8 p.m. Butchers shops and Varvakeios market will close at 4 p.m., while consumers should buy bread for three days.

    [04] Public Order Minister denies publication on ''17 November''

    Public Order Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis denied a publication of the British newspaper "Observer", according to which the Greek authorities are very near to unmask members of the terrorist organization "17 November". According to the publication, an eminent political personality and people who had served in public offices during the government of the ruling PASOK party are included in the list of suspects. However, the Greek Public Order Minister stated that there is no new evidence to that effect.

    [05] PM gets briefed on Defense

    Ministry issues Defense Minister Yannos Papantoniou today will brief Prime Minister Kostas Simitis on issues of his Ministry, following his recent trip to Turkey and his visit to Kosovo yesterday.

    [06] Greek state sued for murdered sergeant

    The family of police sergeant Dionysios Alevizopoulos - murdered when the criminal Kostas Passaris escaped - sues the Greek state, asking for a 350 million drachma indemnity for moral injury, as the sergeant' s relatives hold responsible the various state bodies for the incident.

    [07] Attiko Metro extension lines

    Public Works Minister Vasso Papandreou has pointed out that the extension of Attiko Metro will serve, apart from the suburb of Egaleo, the suburbs of Chaidari, Agia Varvara, Nikea, Korydallos and Keratsini as well.
