    Sunshine is forecast in all parts of the country, with rain and storms from early evening in Macedonia, Thrace and the northern Aegean.Possibility of rain in Thusly. Winds northerly, moderate to strong, turning very strong in parts of the Aegean. Sunny in Athens, with temperatures between 23C and 35C same in Thessaloniki but stormy from evening, with temperatures from 20C to 33C.

    [02] Crash, state medical helicopter

    A Greek state medical helicopter crashed early this morning , killing all five people on board.

    The helicopter taking an ailing patient from the island Ana to the island of Rhodes, crashed into a mountain shortly after take off.

    An investigation is under way into the causes of the crash.

    [03] Industrial mobilizations

    Tuesday will be a difficult day for Athenians due to a series of strikes in the private and public sectors. Tomorrow when the debate on the controversial draftbill for pension reforms is scheduled to start there will be virtually no public transport, as employees on the urban buses, the electric train and the metro will join in a 24 hour strike called by the Civil Servants Union and the opposition members of the General Confederation of Greek Labor. Problems are also expected in air transport, with air traffic controllers and Olympic Airways personnel also participating in the strike.

    In addition , doctors employed by the state social security foundation-IKA- will part in Tuesday s general strike , and have also announced further industrial action on June 21, 25,and 28 while hospital doctors will not work on June 20 and 21.

    Joining the general strike will be the Seamen s Union, which has announced a series of 48 hour rolling strikes starting on Tuesday, causing serious problems in the country s coastal shipping.

    Banks opened today as the Union of Bank employees &#8211;OTOE &#8211;called off rolling 24 hour strikes after the government agreed to accept their key demands.

    [04] Cyprus in the E.U irrespective of the political issue

    By 2004 , irrespective of the political dispute in Cyprus, the island will be a full member of the European Union and nothing can stop this course declared the vice-president of the European parliament s environment committee Dutch Eurodeputy Alexander de Rou.

    In the meantime , the U.S State Department s special coordinator for the Cyprus issue Tomas Weston-on his departure from Cyprus said that U.S policy states that a country exists here. The American diplomat noted that his country had clarified it views in the past, which were in favour of a just, permanent and comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus question in a relatively short period of time.

    [05] New Health Minister will continue reforms

    In an interview with the newspaper Ta Nea, newly appointed Health Minister Kostas Stefanis stated that he was determined to go on with reforms in the health system. However he stressed that his efforts will be based within the government s general policy framework .

    Mr. Stefanis admitted that the existence of serious problems in the health sector but expressed hope that a series of dialogues would be held within a calm climate .

    [06] Pasok party heading for its organizational congress

    The ruling Pasok party has entered into the final stage before the party s organizational congress in July following the approval of the Executive Office proposal by the Pasok party Central Committee.

    In his speech Prime-minister Simitis stressed that there was no time to waste, castigated personal disputes and said that unity and confidence were necessary to ensure victory. Mr. Simitis also exercised strong criticism on the main opposition N.D party .

    From the island of Lefkada the President of the N.D party, Kostas Karamnlis said that Mr.Simitis has lost control of himself and has resorted in the rise of fanaticism and division.

    Commenting ,Government spokesman Christos Protopapas said that the leader of the main opposition New Democracy party, Costas Karamanlis, continues with personal verbal attacks in the absence of specific political proposals.
