(27/6/2002 11:47:00 ðì) [02] Government to examine tax reform and illegal immigration frameworkA government committee will examine today the basic framework of the tax reform and illegal immigration.The first packet of measures of the tax reform will concern the simplification of the Code and Data Book and will be announced most possibly next week. The second packet will be announced in mid July and will concern changes in the taxation of real estate. The third will include changes in income taxation and will be announced at the end of July. (27/6/2002 11:49:00 ðì) [03] Salary rises of civil servants will depend on the economy’s capabilitiesRises in civil servants’ salaries will depend on the capabilities of the Greek economy, the convergence programme and the process of collective negotiations. This was stated by Interior Minister Costas Scandalides following his meeting with Prime Minister Costas Simitis.In tandem, Mr Scandalides rejected information according to which he clashed with Finance Minister Nikos Christodoulakis about the resources to be allocated to the civil servants’ salaries, bit added that there was just some disagreement on the procedure. The government’s target is the exchange of views on the beginning of collective negotiations with the civil servants’ board and to promote an effective Public Administration stated the government spokesman. President George W Bush has condemned the fraud as "outrageous" and vowed to address the problems shaking corporate America. Analysts predicted that WorldCom would file for bankruptcy before the end of week, after it announced 17,000 redundancies and sacked its chief financial officer, Scott Sullivan. Meanwhile, Panhellenic Sailors Federation is examining the possibility of taking recourse to the State Council, asking it declare the political mobilisation as illegal and anti-constitutional.(27/6/2002 11:58:00 ðì) [09] Four agreements signed between Greece and KazakstanThe President of the Hellenic Republic Costis Stephanopoulos’ visit to Kazakstan was sealed with a packet of four economic agreements verifying the closer cooperation between Greece and Kazakstan for the operation o the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline.(27/6/2002 11:59:00 ðì) [10] Vartholomeos arrives in VolosEcumenical Patriarch Vartholomeos arrived in the town of Volos, eastern Greece, on Wednesday at the invitation of the University of Thessaly and will be proclaimed an honourary lecturer on Thursday night.Vartholomeos arrived at Anchialos military airport and was welcomed by Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Christodoulos, the Metropolitan of Dimitriada Ignatios and local authorities. Apart from being proclaimed an honourary lecturer at the university, the Ecumenical Patriarch will also be inaugurating pupils' holiday camps and return to Istanbul on Friday. Yesterday, he briefed the Secretary General of the Greek Communist party Aleka Papariga and Synaspismos party leader Nicos Constantopoulos on the same issue.
