    A cloudy day with sunny spells, turning to rain and storms in the western , central and northern regions of the country. The weather will improve from the west from evening. Snow is forecast on high ground in the north. Winds variable, moderate to strong. Temperatures in Athens will range between 15C and 24C; and in Thessaloniki between 11C to 19C.

    [02] Turkish industrialists visiting Athens

    During his meeting yesterday with a delegation of Turkish industrialists visiting Athens in the seek of support for Turkey s admission into the E.U, Prime-minister Simitis noted that Ancara should make substantial steps towards its convergence with the E.U while he reconfirmed Greece s firm stand on the issue.

    [03] Black September for European money markets

    In the Athens stock market , stocks plunged 2.4% on Monday hit by a negative climate in other European markets.

    The last trading session of September sealed a very negative month for the market, during which the general index lost more than 14% raising this year s losses to around 29%.

    European blue chips ended sharply lower yesterday as investors took fright at deteriorating prospects for the global economy , bleak corporate outlooks and the threat of a war in Iraq, justifying all those who were lately speaking about a black September for international money markets . European money markets closed with losses ranging from 4,4% in Milan to 5,9% in Paris while London stock market recorded 17% losses in September.

    Threat of military action In Iraq has brought up to $29 , the price of the barrel of oil while in the eurozone inflation went up to 2,2 compared to 2,1% last month.

    [04] U.S intensifies lobbying for U.N rsolution

    U.N-Iraq talks on the return of arms inspectors to Iraq made progress yesterday but could not dispel the looming possibility of a u.s led war to destroy any weapons of mass destruction harboured by Bagdad.

    In the meantime the U.S intensified lobbying of the 10 rotating U.N Security Council members yesterday in support of a resolution that allows Washingthon to strike Iraq if it perceives violations.
