    A cloudy day is forecast with local rain and snow on high ground. Winds moderate to very strong in the seas. Temperatures in Athens will range between 6C to 12C and in Thessaloniki between 2C to 6C.

    [02] Informal E.U Defence Ministers Council meeting in Athens

    The European Union 2 day informal meeting on the Iraq crisis concludes in Athens today.

    French Defence Minister said that France will exercise its veto power to prevent the approval of a UN Security Council resolution authorising the use of force to disarm Iraq while NATO General Secretary Lord Robertson said all possibilities were open.

    Britain, was represented by a lower rank official , resorting to the tough negotiations of these days.

    The chief of EU Foreign affairs and defence , Xavie Solana said war was not inevitable as long as negotiations continued

    Greek Defence Minister, Yiannos Papantoniou, president of the EU Defence Ministers Council said a very tough diplomatic struggle is currently taking place and nobody can predict the outcome of consultations, adding that this weekend will be crucial from the point of view of developments.

    The EU summit meeting on Thursday in Brussels will focus on developments in the Iraq crisis .Prime-minister Simitis repeated that Greece s EU presidency will continue working for a peaceful settlement of the Iraqui crisis based on UN resolutions.
