    A mainly cloudy day is forecast in all parts of the country, turning to showers in Macedonia an Thrace from afternoon with snow on high ground. Rain will extend to the central parts of the country, Evia and the north Aegean islands from evening. Winds northerly, light to moderate, turning strong later in the day. Temperatures in Athens will range between 4C and 16C and in Thessaloniki from 2C to 11C.

    US forces rolled across the desert of southern Iraq heading north toward Bagdad past oil fields

    As U.S and British troops crossed into Iraq from Kuweit , explosions and fireballs were seen in the direction of Basora , Iraq s second largest city

    Shortly after land operations began, an American navy helicopter crashed killing 12 American and 4 British soldiers. On the Iraq-Kuweit borders two other helicopters crashed during an emergency landing but no casualties were reported.

    New cruise missiles were launched against Bagdad last night with sevarla exlposions reported near government buildings. One of the targets struck was Saddam Housein vast Bagdad palace complex on the banks of the Tigris River and another building housing an office of Deputy Prime-minister Tareq Aziz.

    American &#8211;British land operations , code named Liberation for Iraq, were carried out in combination with air strikes and launching of Tomahok missiles from surface and submarine vessels.

    Iraq has launched 6 missiles against Kuweit which has been placed on high alert . No victims reported.

    British soldiers are engaged in land , air and sea operations with the mission to remove Saddam Housein from power and disarm Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction.

    The US has warned that a full scale war has not began yet. American Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfield said that will follow will not be a repeat of any other conflict. It will be of a force and scope and scale that has been beyond what has been seen before.

    Following the US refusal to agree with Turkey s unilateral actions in northern Iraq, Turkey has suspended the use of its airspace by American planes

    In the meantime, Washington has taken measures to deal with a possible terrorist attack on a nuclear plant in Arizona while traces of the highly toxic poison ricin have been found at the Gare de Lyon railway station in Paris.

    The 15 EU leaders , attending the EU spring summit in Brussels agreed on a common european stance in future developments in Iraq, in Europe s participation in UN humanitarian programs, and the bridging of differences in Europe- American relations

    Greek Prime-minister and EU President, Kostas Simitis said he deeply regretted a peaceful solution to the Iraq problem could not be found and expressed hope that the war would end soon so as to minimize casualties , particularly among civilians.
