[03] Operational framework of local governments to change

Everything will change with the local government, following the new operation framework that was approved by the cabinet and which will be tabled at Parliament in autumn after a dialogue takes place with the Central Association of Municipalities and Communities of Greece (KEDKE).

The institutional changes decided, extend democracy with the boosting of the municipal council and inter municipal cooperation, while the state checks and financing will be put on a new basis.

Athens Mayor Dora Bakoyianni told NET 105.8 that that Greece must adopt the European standards with increased responsibilities given to the local administrations, while the Communist party of Greece announced that Mr Simitis had not spoken about the debts of the state to the local governments.
