    Temperatures in Athens will range from 25 to 35 degrees centigrade, and in Thessaloniki from 22 to 33 degrees.

    [02] Russia to request extradition of Gusinsky from Greece

    Russian prosecutors said today they were preparing a request to extradite former Russian media baron Vladimir Gusinsky from Greece. He was arrested at Athens airport last week on an international warrant, on suspicion of a $250 million fraud, and a Greek prosecutors yesterday ordered him to be detained while the extradition issue was settled by Greece's highest court.

    [03] Law on MPs' source of income to be debated in parliament

    Matters relating to the laws on members of parliament's source of wealth were discussed today at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Costas Simitis, attended by the speaker of parliament, Apostolos Kaklamanis, Interior minister Costas Skandalidis and other government officials. The law will be among the first to be debated at parliament's upcoming new session.

    [04] Denktash's tactics slammed by Greek government spokesman

    The tactics used by Turkish-Cypriot representative Rauf Denktash are leading the Cyprus issue into yet another impasse, government spokesman Christos Protopappas said today. He added that Denktash's policy was also negative for the Turkish-Cypriots themselves and was dragging Turkey along a course that was in direct conflict with its wish to join the European Union.

    [05] Novermber 17 defendant released from prison

    One of 19 defendants in the trial of November 17 guerrilla suspects was released from prison today, after officials failed to renew the order for his imprisonment. Under Greek law, suspects jailed before the end of their trial can be held in prison for six months, after which a new warrant for their imprisonment must be issued.

    [06] British police offer help with rowdy G

    A team of three police officers from the British coastal resort of Blackpool is scheduled to visit Rhodes this week, in order to assist Greek authorities handle rowdy UK tourists. Britain offered advisory help, after the deaths of three young Britons in drink-fuelled incidents, as well as frequent drunkenness and lewd behaviour in Faliraki ' a popular package tour destination on the island.

    [07] Greece wins silver and bronze in Track & Field Championships

    Greece won its first medals today at the World Track and Field Championships being held in Paris in the discus throwing event. Tasoula Kelesidou came second, with a throw of 67.14 metres ' just 18 points behind Belorussian Irina Yatsenko, while Katerian Vongoli won the bronze medal with a distance of 66.73 metres, breaking her own record.

    [08] Israeli air strike kills one person in the Gaza Strip

    Israeli helicopter gunships killed at least one person and injured 20 in a Gaza Strip refugee camp today, keeping up the pressure on Palestinian militant strongholds, after the collapse of a ceasefire.

    [09] One US soldier killed, 2 wounded in Iraq

    In Iraq, a bomb attack on a US convoy killed an American soldier and wounded two today, as hundreds of troops launched a new operation to hunt down guerrillas in the hostile Sunni heartlands north of Baghdad.
