    Public Order Minister Giorgos Floridis, who is presently in Moscow for meetings with Russian government ministers, ensured Russian participation in terms of information and technical infrastructure, in view of the upcoming Athens Olympics in August.

    In another development, the first 30 soldiers, who joined the Games volunteer program, during their military service, received awards this afternoon from Defence Minister Yannos Papantoniou.

    [02] PM inspects Rio-Antirrio bridge project

    Prime Minister Costas Simitis today inspected the progress of the construction of the Rio-Antirrio bridge. He noted that the project will contribute to the regions economic development, as well as create jobs, and pointed out that growth will continue even after this years Olympic Games in Athens.

    [03] Eurobarometer polls shows Greeks distrust political parties

    According to a Eurobarometer survey, presented today at the European Commissions office in Athens, Greeks are distrustful of political parties and the government as an institution, and show little interest in political discussions. Only 20% of Greeks polled said they trusted political parties, while 77% expressed negativity and disappointment about the policies they produce.

    [04] Papariga slams both Pasok and ND parties

    Communist Party General Secretary Aleka Papariga today slammed both Pasok and New Democracy, during a speech to workers at the Elefsina shipyards. She emphasized that after the elections both of the major parties will utilize the same tactics, and also ruled out the possibility of cooperating on a pre-election basis, with the Coalition of the Left

    The main opposition New Democracy leader Costas Karamanlis today addressed an audience of young people in Kallithea. He announced measures for social security coverage for the unemployed by their families, a reduction in military service, support for graduate students and free connection to the Internet with a student card.

    Speaking to owners of small-to-medium-sized businesses this afternoon, future Pasok leader George Papandreou spoke of new financing possibilities and institutional changes to facilitate such businesses, for which funds will be spent in order to link them with new technologies and the world market.

    Details of the method of conducting the ruling Pasok partys congress are being finalized, as only a few days remain until Friday. On Sunday, a ballot will be held for the election of the only candidate, Foreign Minister George Papandreou, as the socialist partys new leader
