    Voters headed to the polls in Wisconsin today, with Democratic front-runner John Kerry

    looking for a win that could cement his grip on the nomination to challenge President George W. Bush in November. Kerry, a four-term senator from Massachusetts, has a commanding lead in the race for the Democratic nomination after winning 14 of the first 16 presidential contests.

    [02] U.S. soldier killed in Iraq

    A roadside bomb killed a U.S. soldier in northern Iraq, the U.S. military said today, the third such killing in less than 24 hours. Iraqs Interior Ministry said late on Monday that police had last week arrested five suspects in the assassination of Akila al-Hashemi, a member of the U.S.-backed Iraqi Governing Council.

    The charter of daily living was presented today by the leader of the New Democracy party, Kostas Karamanlis during a campaign stop in Argyroupolis. Mr. Karamanlis spoke about the Athens of tomorrow, with better transportation, less traffic grid-lock and accessibility for the physically challenged.

    The first meeting between representatives of the governing party of PASOK and right-wing main opposition party of New Democracy, held in Parliament today, ended without an agreement on the manner the televised debates between PASOK leader Giorgos Papandreou and New Democracy leader Kostas Karamanlis will be held. Both sides are scheduled to meet again tomorrow in an effort to find a common formula for the debates.

    [05] Biminesterial meeting on Olympic Games chaired by PM Simitis

    The course of the Olympic Games preparations was examined today during a meeting of the biminesterial committee which was chaired by Prime Minister Simitis. Mr. Simitis underlined that the 2004 Olympic Games are being expected with much confidence, certainty and satisfaction six months prior to their start date.

    [06] Papandreou conducts one day visit to Cyprus

    Pasok president, George Papandreou conducted a one-day visit to Cyprus today. Following his meeting with Cypriot president, Tasos Papadopoulos, Mr. Papandreou expressed the hope that the momentum of the past months would lead to a solution of the islands long standing dispute based on the European acquis and stressed that Turkish-Cypriots would benefit greatly from their European Union accession.

    [07] Cyprus negotiations begin Thursday in Nicosia

    U.N. representative for the Cyprus dispute, Alvaro De Soto arrives in Nicosia Cyprus this evening in view of the negotiations to begin on Thursday. At the same time, Cyprus National Council is currently meeting and Turkeys National Council is also monitoring the developments in progress.

    In statements made in Brussels, Mr. De Soto underlined that there is no alternate plan available in the event the Anan plan is denied following the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot referendums.

    In Ankara today, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged his government would play a constructive role in the negotiations that resume in Nicosia on Thursday.
