The main opposition New Democracy leader Costas Karamanlis is
presenting the conservative partys program this evening, during a
national meeting in the western Athens suburb of Peristeri. In the
meantime, candidates on the partys state ticket were announced today,
headed by former ND leader Miltiades Evert. Tomorrow, Karamanlis is
scheduled to tour the Dodecanese islands.

With only 16 days left until the general elections on March 7,
political parties have intensified their campaigns. The ruling Pasok
partys president, George Papandreou today presented the partys platform
on education. Among other things, he made a commitment that at least
five percent of the Gross National Product will be spent on education
up to 2008, as well as the start of dialogue for the abolition of
university entrance examinations.
[03] Poll indicates Greek Cypriots may reject UN peace plan

An opinion poll today showed that Greek Cypriots may reject any plan to
unite the divided island that comes out of fresh political talks, which
opened this week. Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders are discussing a UN
plan to reunite the island within weeks, but a poll showed 61 percent
of Greek Cypriots giving the UN blueprint an unqualified thumbs down.
Two-thirds of the 800 respondents in a CSB poll said the plan was not
viable.
[04] Security top priority at Olympics says PM

Security at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens constitutes a top priority
stressed Prime Minister Costas Simitis today, following a working
luncheon for the General Secretary of NATO, Jop Schefer, who completed
his visit to Greece this afternoon. Simitis added that Greece
absolutely condemns terrorism.

A cloudy and cool day is forecast, with light snowfalls in the hillsand
strong northeast winds in the Aegean.Temperatures in Athens will range
from 6 to 11 degrees centigrade, and in Thessaloniki from 3 to 7
degrees.
