US fighter jets mounted an air strike near the Pakistani-Afghan borders targeting al Qaedas second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri. However, it still remains unclear whether Ayman al-Zawahri is dead, quoted US sources, which are aware of the details of the operation. As per international Media, buildings were bombarded in the village of Bajaur, after CIA received intelligence that Zawahri was near that area.

[03] Over the Exact Causes of Death Awaiting Biopsy Results

    13 Jan 2006 23:51:00

    Sources: NET

The findings of the second autopsy agree with the findings of the first examination over the fatal wounding by a bullet of cadet officer Dimitris Souras, who was found dead on New Years eve in a guardhouse at Pythio, Evros. The coroners referred to the biopsy and toxicology examinations, which are expected in 20 days, in order to conclude the exact causes of death. They were categorical on the scratches and marks on the cadets body, noting that they do not prejudge a struggle, or any similar occurrence, and are referring to the biopsy for the exact causes of death.

Moreover, the results of the ballistics on the cadets weapon are considered to be important evidence to the investigation.

On their part, the familys attorneys spoke of unanswered questions, time and evidence lost, as well as perpetrators who have to be found.

[04] 84 People Died Chilly Cold in Japan

    14 Jan 2006 10:41:00

    By Anna Kourti

    Sources: BBC, ANA

Eighty-four people died due to the severe snowstorms that have blasted the north and centre of Japan since early December. In the province of Niigata, north of Tokyo, two people were killed when two buildings collapsed because of the weight of the snow, while an avalanche hit the ski resort of the province of Simane, west of Tokyo. There were no reports of victims, though. The snowfalls have also seriously disrupted the countrys transport system, while mountainous villages have been cut off and several houses have been buried under a quite thick layer of snow.
