The fuel market has been partially normalized after 200 privately-owned fuel-trucks provided petrol stations in Athens with petrol and 50 more petrol the Thessaloniki petrol stations. Following a good will gesture by the strikers, it has been estimated that up to 20% of the petrol stations will be provided with fuel by the 200 fuel-trucks. However, drivers are still queuing at petrol stations to fill up their cars. Meanwhile, in some cases drivers had to pay 1.5 euros for one litre of unleaded oil yesterday. It is noteworthy that the province has been mostly affected by the lack of fuel, while Hellenic Seaways has announced that if the strike continues, then "Express Skiathos" will stop traveling to Skiathos. In parallel, "Panagia Soumela" has replaced "Daliana" and carries out itineraries from Thessaloniki to Limnos, Chios and Mytilini.

An extraordinary meeting is to be held in Brussels on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the junta insists on managing the international aid sent to Myanmar. The National Planning and Economic Development Minister told foreign diplomats that government aid services have reached most cyclone-hit areas, adding however that some still remain cut off. He also reported that the government has already spent $US18 million to help the victims, having set up 21 settlements for the homeless. From their side, international organizations have calculated that the homeless are over two million. As per the authorities the cyclone has killed 28,458 people, while 33,416 are reported missing, when UN humanitarian organizations speak of 100,000 dead. Meanwhile, the first US aid flight to Burma following the devastating cyclone nine days ago has taken off from an air base in neighbouring Thailand. More aircrafts are to follow.

[03] Serbia: Pro-Europeans Win

Pro-Europeans claimed victory in Serbias parliamentary elections yesterday with President Boris Tadic garnering 39% up to now. "The citizens of Serbia have undoubtedly confirmed a clear European path," said President Boris Tadic, whose Democratic Party is the main force in the pro-Western alliance, which has campaigned to speed Serbias accession into the European Union. Tadics declaration of victory overnight sparked wild celebrations on the streets of Belgrade. As per unofficial results presented by CESID and which represent 85% of the votes, Boris Tadic party garnered 38.7% and 103 out of the 250 seats of the Serbian Parliament. Tomislav Nikolics SRS party follows with 29.1% and 77 seats, outgoing PM Vojislav Kostunitsa comes third with 11.3% and 30 seats and the Serbian Socialist party fourth with 7.9% and 20 seats.
