Fuel market in Greece is expected to be smoothed over, after the road tanker owners decided Wednesday to suspend their strike actions. The commercial trucks owners, on the other hand, decided to go on with their strike amid high tensions. The suspension was not decided because their grievances were met, stressed Angelos Falaris, the Federations secretary general. "We decided to end the strike after taking into consideration the social turmoil. Even the remotest village will have been refueled by 6am on Thursday morning," added he.

Asked whether they fear commercial truck owners reaction to their decision, Falaris argued that their colleagues would consider what is best for the society and stand by their side.

In the meantime, Transport Minister Kostis Xatzidakis underlined that the strikers have to realize that the society cannot be held captive to one group that demands all its grievances be met. PASOK (Panhellenic Socialist Movement) spokesman Giorgos Papakonstantinou, on the other hand, urged the Government to not give its backing any solution at the expense of the peoples road safety.

Earlier, Transport Ministry officials had maintained that higher rises would spark a new wave of rises in products and inflationary pressures. In reference to measures regarding restrictions from national roads, the Transport Ministry said that the agreement reached last week provides for a balanced solution for a safe transport of citizens and smooth transport services.

The debate on the constitutional revision continues. On Wednesday, the Greek deputies are discussing the revision of Article 24 on forest land. However, it is highly probably not to be voted, as the opposition parties do not see eye to eye on the matter. On the contrary, Article 57 foreseen the establishment of the MP professional incompatibility is expected to be voted by all the parties apart from the Socialist one. Voted only by the Conservative deputies, Article 16 on Education was viewed as non-revisable
