    Fruitless Investigations

    Health condition of the police officer of who was seriously injured in his head from fires of an unidentified criminal in the bloody clash that took place in cannabis plantations in Malades of Crete remains critical but stable

    Deputy Minister of Health Mr. Giorgos Papageorgiou visited today the hospital where the injured police officers are hospitalized. "The state is here. We will do whatever possible to help the recovery of our co citizens police officers who are hospitalized in the University Hospital of Heraklion", Deputy Minister of Health and Social Solidarity Mr. Papageorgiou stated after the meeting that took place under his presidency in the University Hospital of Heraklion regarding the better and most effective medical treatment of police officers who are being hospitalized in the hospital after the bloody clash.

    Mr. Papageriou stressed: "It was confirmed that the medical treatment provided to the patients was excellent while all doctors who participated in the meeting agreed on the medical treatment they are going to apply. "These two incidents are extremely critical but it is very soon to proceed to any kind of predictions. I am certain that doctors will do whatever possible for the full recovery of the police officers in order to return to their families". After the meeting Deputy Minister and doctors briefed in detail the relatives of the patients on theri condition.

    Objects that were found at the place of the crime are being investigated on the laboratories of the Greek Police. Investigations in Heraklion and the wider area continue. Meantime the police officers who were attacked will be shown photo of possible suspects in order to recognize the criminal of the bloody attack.

    [02] On FYROM and Cyprus

    Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Dora Bakoyiannis as well her US couterpart Mrs. Contoleeza Rice discussed about the negotiations on the issue of FYROM, the Cypriot issue, Greek Turkish relations as well as The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) that will enable Greek citizens to travel to the U.S. for short-term business or tourism without obtaining a visa. As Mrs. Bakoyianis stated after the completion of her meeting with Mrs. Rice, the name issue will not be resolved until July 9th. The discussion on the issue was mostly for briefing reasons at the sight of Mr. Nimetz's visit in Athens on Thursday and in Skopje. Finally, Mrs. Bakoyiannis stated: "I expressed the hope that these negotiations will have a favorable end and that Skopje will abandon its pre election rhetoric and will realize the essence of the negotiations".

    The Environment first Priority for France

    According to TNS Sofres poll released today in public, 63% of French believe that the environment is of first priority in the 6th month presidency of the European Union where Paris will be in charge from July 1st. The reform of agricultural policy (36% of people asked) comes second, the immigrant policies (33%) and civil security and Defense (32%) are following. Only 17% of people asked support The Mediterranean Union (UPM) which is strongly supported by Nikola Sarkozy.

    According to the poll, another week remains until the start of the French presidency in the European Union. Only 33% of French have heard about (UPM), 33% has heard about indefinite discussions while 34% has heard nothing about this issue. People asked seem optimistic for the results of this presidency. 39% think that this presidency is positive for France and 40% believe that it is positive for the European Union. 18% believe that the presidency is going to have negative consequences for France and 14% for Europe.
