In an interview with the newspaper "Kyriakatiki Eleftherotypia", Economics Minister, George Alogoskoufis spoke of a possible ND-PASOK coalition in the event a majority government is not elected. His position gave rise to several comments. ND secretary, Lefteris Zagoritis expressed objection while PASO K and SYRIZA expressed reservations and objections to scenarios about pre and post electoral cooperation. LAOS President, George Karatzaferis also expressed his view on coalition government scenarios.

    Majority and Coalition Governments

In his interview with "Kyriakatiki Eleftherotypia" newspaper, George Alogoskoufis speaks of a para-state that attempts to denigrate the total political world and stresses that the ND party will claim majority government in the elections. He also underlined that in the event a majority government is not formed, the only valuable coalition could be between the two large parties provided they could agree to promote some most difficult reforms PASOK deputy, Hristos Papoutsis categorically objected possibility of coalition with a party whose policy is responsible for poverty, unemployment and social deadlocks and above all responsible for the selling out of state wealth..

ND secretary, Lefteris Zagoritis said that this is Mr. Alogoskoufis personal view, underlining that the ND party must achieve a majority government as past experience has proved that coalition governments have not had positive results. Scenarios about coalition governments are on the rise lately as recent gallops indicate that the first party does not gather a percentage allowing it to form majority government. PASOK percentage points are higher but not as expected and George Papandreou extends his hand to the Left parties. SYN president, Alexis Tsipras rules out cooperation with PASOK.

LAOS president, George Karatzaferis says that promoting coalition proposals is within ND party strategy to deal with its picture which is being permanently damaged.

ND deputy, Vyron Polidoras complains about the criticism against his views the last four years even from within the ND party, stresses that no party can be kept with phobic deputies and urges the party to invest on freedom and trust. A new climate is expected to emerge from political developments in the Parliament on Tuesday where a debate will be held on reforms in labor relations in public utility companies.

    [02] Meeting on Economy

    27 Ιουλ 2008 18:23:0

    Sources: ΝΕΤ

Prime-minister, Kostas Karamanlis meeting with Finance Minister, George Alogoskoufis on Monday will focus on the impact of international economic crisis and stationary inflation on the Greek economy. It is expected that decisions regarding heating-oil allowance on the grounds of income and regional criteria will be finalized in August while supplementary allowance to low income classes will be also reviewed. However there is high concern over high fuel prices in Greece despite slide in world crude oil prices.

Hopes from Gradual Slide in Oil Prices

Gradual slide in oil prices has increased hope among investors and people. On Friday, July, 25 crude oil dropped $24 to $123.26 per barrel from $147.27 on July, 11. Despite slide in world crude oil prices, fuel price in Greece either drops very slowly or remains unchanged. Average price of unleaded gas was 1.267 euros per liter on 27/6/2008, 1.27 euros on 4/7/2008, 1.271 euros on 11/7/2008 and 1.269 euros on 18/7/2008.

Drop in oil prices during the last 10 days was a kind of relief to international stock markets with investors showing again trust to oversold commodity shares. In an interview with newspaper "To Bima tis Kyriakis", Eurobank chief advisor, Nikos Nanopoulos underlined that we should all bear the burden of the economic crisis, without blaming each other otherwise we will reefed inflation which is the worst as it in the mid-term will lead to stationary inflation. The government has placed as top priority to combat tax evasion a ten figure number in Greece (21 billion euros)."Citizens must realize that tax evasion is a deeply antisocial behaviour which offends our society."

The top targets of the economic staff is to increase incomings, cut expenditures and support low-income classes. Heating oil allowance based on income and regional criteria will be finalized in August while priority will be placed on the unemployed, OGA pensioners, those eligible for EKAS, single families and people with special needs.
