[01] Oil Prices Drop

Downward trend on oil prices is recorded in Asian markets on Tuesday after US crude soared by $16 per barrel yesterday. In morning transactions light crude for November delivery contracts dropped 48 cents to $108.89 per barrel. Brent oil dropped 52 cents to $105.52 per barrel.

During yesterdays session the U.S. crude oil expiring contract for October went up to $130 a barrel, 24% up. Analyst Clarence Csu for Hudosn Capital, in Singapore said "I do not believe oil wil drop below $99 per barrel.

[02] Bakoyianni-Rice Meeting on Thursday

Foreign Minister, Dora Bakoyianni is to meet with US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice on Thursday morning on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly a day after the Greek delegation meets with UN special envoy Mathew Nimitz, following a request by the Greek side. According to UN announcement, Mathew Nimitz will also meet with FYROM President, Branco Chervenovski. Talks during Bakoyianni-Rice meeting are expected to center on prospects for resolution of Cyprus issue, developments in Caucasus and issues of common interest. Mrs. Bakoyianni is also likely to meet with the third in rank State Department official, state undersecretary William Berns. Later on Tuesday, Mrs. Bakoyianni will take part in a meeting of OSCE quintet-comprised of Greece, Spain, Finland, Kazakhstan and Lithuania- focusing on Georgia issue. She will also attend speeches delivered by UN Sec. Gen Ban Ki moon, and the presidents of the US, Brasil, France and the Palestinian Authority. Furthermore she will participate in the meeting of the "27" EU member states with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov centered on developments in Caucasus. She is also scheduled to meet with Cyprus President, Dimitris Hristofias to discuss coordination of moves regarding the Cyprus issue and finally will visit Archbishop of America Demetrios and attend customary dinner hosted by UN Gen. Secr. in honor of leaders of delegations attending the 63rd UN General Assembly.

[03] Jerusalem New Vehicle Attack

At least 10 people were injured when an Arab driver rammed his car into a group of Israeli soldiers in Jerusalem on Monday night. The man, who neighbours said lived in Jerusalem, was shot dead after injuring 15 of the soldiers and four others, under the walls of the Old City on a road that marks the dividing "Green Line" between Arab East Jerusalem and the Jewish west. Police described it as a "terrorist" attack. There was no immediately credible claim of responsibility. Two of those hurt were in a serious condition, medics said. Police said a soldier and then a policeman shot the driver. However, it is not clear yet who shot the driver, a television network says that he was shot by a passerby. The soldiers were on a late-night educational tour of the city ahead of next weeks celebration of the Jewish New Year. Dozens of ultra-Orthodox Jews gathered nearby.

[04] Fresh Opinion Poll Shows

Barrack Obama, Democrat presidential candidate emerges benefited from economic crisis according to a fresh opinion poll placing him in the lead with 51% against 46% of his Republican rival John MacCain. A CNN poll released on Monday indicated that one in two Americans attribute responsibility for the economic crisis to Republicans, who have been in office for the last 8 years. Specifically, 47% of registered voters blame Republicans for the credit crisis against 24% who blame Democrats. Previous poll showed the race essentially tied with the two presidential candidates gathering the same percentage 48%. According to the poll, Obama has a 10-point lead over McCain on the question of who would better handle the economy overall. Obama has seen a steady rise in public opinion polls during the last week and the economy remaining by far the top issue. More Americans think Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama would do a better job handling an economic crisis than his Republican opponent John McCain.
