  • [01] Obama Appears Concerned over Civilian Losses

Breaking his silence, US President-elect Barack Obama voiced Wednesday his grave concern over the loss of civilians in Gaza and Israel and vowed "to hit the ground running" on achieving a broad Middle East peace deal. Speaking after the pounding of an UN-run school, where civilians had taken refuge in, Obama told reporters: "The loss of civilian life in Gaza and Israel is a source of deep concern to me, and after January 20th I am going to have plenty to say about the issue." He then went on to reiterate that only US President George W. Bush is entitled to speak about the US foreign policy.

He expressed his deep concern over the conflicts. However, he failed to touch on a "permanent and viable ceasefire" the Bush administration is after.

He also replied to the criticism he came in for, because of his decision not to take a stand on a major challenge for the US foreign policy, and pledged to work for a solution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
