  • [01] Cabinet Reshuffle Viewed Positively

The Greek people seem to have welcomed the Prime Minister's recent political decisions. Both the cabinet changes and the government's economic policy have appealed to the majority of the people, as the surveys that appear in Sunday Press have suggested. An MRB poll conducted on behalf of Typos tis Kyriakis paper, the ruling Conservatives (ND) have reduced the gap with the Socialists (PASOK) from five points to three. The same difference has been reported in an ALKO poll commissioned for Proto Thema Sunday paper, with Kostas Karamanlis' popularity rising.

In the MRB poll carried out on behalf of Typos tis Kyriakis, ND has garnered 29.3 percent and PASOK 32.3 percent. KKE (Greek Communist Party) has trailed with 7.5 percent, SYRIZA (Coalition of the Radical Left) with 8.6, LAOS (Popular Orthodox Rally) with 4.5 and the Greens with 2.5 percent.

Furthermore, the majority of the respondents (40.5 percent) have given a positive ranking to Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, while 35.7 percent have opted for Socialist leader George Papandreou.

The ALKO survey has also shown that the difference between the two major political parties has been reduced to three points. ND has gained 28.2 percent and PASOK garnered 31.2 percent. KKE has trailed with 7.8 percent, SYRIZA with 7.1 percent, LAOS with 3.9 percent and the Greens with 1.2 percent.

A Public Issue opinion poll commissioned for Kathimerini tis Kyriakis Sunday paper, the overwhelming majority of the people surveyed, namely 67 percent, gives a positive ranking to the cabinet reshuffle, as opposed to 33 percent of the respondent who think otherwise.
