  • [01] Greece Speeds up Extradition Procedures

Two top-ranking judges departed for Munich to speed up Michalis Christoforakos' extradition to Greece. It appears that the former Siemens Hellas CEO will do anything in its power to avoid his being extradited to Greece. In fact, his lawyers claimed he fears for his life and that the money he gave to political parties were legal sponsorships.

Michalis Christoforakos is determined to avoid his being extradited to Greece, as he is very aware of what is in store for him. He will certainly be detained, while a future court ruling could send him behind bars for several years.

After his arrest, the former Siemens Hellas CEO started sending messages. Although he had previously said he knew nothing of money laundering, off-shore companies and bribery, he has started implying that he knows far too much.

Legal sources have estimated that the extradition procedure could take even months. However, Greece hopes that the obstacles he keeps raising will be surmounted and Christoforakos will have been extradited to Greece to stand trial by September the latest.

SYN member Panos Skourletis commented: âThe Greek people demands Christoforakos be extradited and stand a trial in Greece. Both ND (New Democracy) and PASOK (Panhellenic Socialist Movement) are mutually responsible for what has happened with regard to the Siemens case.â
