    News

    The Environment, Public Works and City Planning Ministry has clarified that there would not be retroactive payment of taxes, property transfer fees, IKA contributions or any other fees for the redetermination of semi-closed porches settled within the context of the ministry's recent regulation.

    There is no public sector that can impose retroactive payment of fees on the semi-closed porches said the Environment Ministry announcement.

    [02] Selaya:âI will Return to Hondurasâ

    News

    Honduras president Manuel Selaya accompanied by state leaders and Nobel prize winners said he would return to Honduras but did not specify when. In the meantime the EU rotating presidency Sweden said that all EU member states amabassadors to Honduras have been recalled. On his part, Roberto Mitseleti, Honduras temporary president after the overthrow of Selaya, said he did not object to the holding of early elections. He also proposed a national referendum for the restoration of Selaya but difficult to be held soon.

    I am examining with the international community my strategic return to Honduras said Selaya in Panama where he was attending the swearing in ceremony of the new president Ricardo Martineli.

    The EU expressed its deep concern at the crisis in Honduras and the military coup that overthrew Selaya. The EU called on all involved sides to avoid violence and try to find a peaceful solution to the present situation soon.

    [03] UN Sec. Gen. in Burma

    News

    UN Sec. Gen. Ban Ki moon is on a two-day visit to Myanmar. He will have contacts for the release of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi â whom he will try to meet-and other political prisoners in Myanmar.

    The UN Sec. Gen will meet with the military junta ruling Myanmar and will repeat his three main demands: the release of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners and resumption of dialogue between the government and the oppositiona necessary precondition for national reconciliations and creation of necessary conditions for the holding of elections next year.

    âIt is a very tough mission', he told reporters shortly after his arrival,

    adding that he was also going to "convey the concern of the international community" and press for reconciliation and democracy.

    Political analysts see it unlikely that the military junta will agree to release Aung San Suu Kyi before elections in 2010. She has spent the last 20 years either in prison or at home arrest.

    [04] Hristoforakos New Long Testimony

    Former Siemens Hellas chief Mihalis Hristoforakos, who testified for a second time today before Munich Prosecutor, would return to Greece if he received assurances that he would not be arrested his lawyers said. His testimony lasted 6 hours. His lawyers believe that he would avoid extradition to Greece and be prosecuted in Germany after the evidence he presented. In the meantime, interrogator Nikos Zagorianos has provided the German judicial authorities with additional evidence against him.

    Munich Prosecutor met with Greek judges Nikos Zagoriaos and Evangelos Pantioras on Thursday. The German judges said the new evidence was interesting.

    [05] H1N1 Spreading Rapidly

    According to the World Health Organization H1N1 cases are rapidly increasing with 337 victims and 80.000 cases recorded in 121 countries. Recorded H1N1 cases in Greece have reached 116, all cases with mild symptoms said the Health Ministry announcement. The Sismanogleio hospital health personnel infected with the H1N1 virus is under medical treatment at his home. Tests on all contacts the infected health personnel had at the hospital, after instructions by the Health Ministry, came out negative.

    Tests on 20 health employees at the Sismanogleio, who came in contact with the H1N1 infected person, came out negative said the National Health Operations Center. In the meantime, 7 new H1N1 cases were recorded in southern Greece today bringing the total number in Greece infected by the new flu to 116, of whom 42 have fully recovered and the rest receiving medical treatment. The NHOC says that cases are increasing as the new flu has turned to pandemic, however, all cases have mild symptoms.

    H1N1 Symptoms in Tourist Group

    A group of 30 tourists from the US and Panama visiting northern Greece showed H1N1 symptoms. They were transferred to AXEPA hospital in Thessaloniki. Eleven of them remained hospitalized and the others were transferred to a hotel in the city awaiting results of tests.

    Piraeus Prefect Yiannis Mihas distributed leaflets with important information on the new flu along with a traveler advisory booklet.

    PASOK Criticism

    PASOK deputy George Floridis blamed the Health Ministry for not having drawn a national action plan to deal with the new flu. He warned that measures should be taken immediately in view of the tourist peak season and the opening of the new academic school year.

    International Concern

    A White House spokesman said that the Obama administration will hold an extraordinary meeting next week to examine moves in the event of pandemic in autumn or earlier.

    British health authorities predicted recording 100.000 cases daily at the end of August. On its part the WHO, after a two-day meeting in Cancun, Mexico, said that the majority of H1N1 victims are young adults with previous health problems and warned that development of the flu is uncertain.
