  • [01] Fourth Serious H1N1 Case-Scientists Call for Calm

    Scientists call ones concerned about H1N1 flu to indicate calm and not panic and avoid going to hospitals unless there is serious reason. In the meantime, the fourth H1N1serious case was reported on Monday. A 30yo man infected by the virus developed pneumonia and has been hospitalized at the intensive care ward of Heraklio Hospital.

    In the meantime, the 33yo, hospitalized since July, 19, has been disconnected from support machine. Doctors have also described as stable and without complications the health condition of a 42yo man and a 16yo girl, both treated in hospital.

    Another four hospitals, two in Athens and two in Thessaloniki have been included in the H1N1 reference hospitals. Also Larissa, Heraklio, Alexandroupolis and Ioannina hospitals laboratories have joined the list of laboratories already operating in Athens and Thessaloniki.

    âAll hospitals are operating within the context of alert plan to deal with new flu casesâ said Health Minister. Justice Minister Nikos Dendias meets with directors of disciplinary institutes on Tuesday to discuss dealing with new flu virus in prisons.

    [02] Optimism for Crete H1N1 Cases

    The health of two young men receiving treatment for heavy pneumonia at the intensive care ward of Heraklio General Hospital, infected with the H1N1, is gradually improving. Doctors have expressed optimism on the course of their health, stressing , however, that they have not escaped danger.

    Doctors & Nurses Recovering at Home

    In the meantime, 5 doctors and 3 nurses of Rethymno hospital are receiving medical treatment and recovering at home. There is concern regarding one of the doctors who is pregnant.

    Rethymno hospital doctors and hospital personnel stress that some departments may suspend operation in the event more members of the hospital personnel are infected.

    No to Panic

    Scientists appeal for calm and not panic. They advise people to avoid hospital unless the condition is serious. Crowded emergency departments create problems and serious cases might not receive the necessary attention.

    [03] LARKO: Investigation on Causes of Accident

    A group of experts from the Inspection of Mines is to visit the LARKO plant in Larymna to conduct an autopsy at the site of the accident that killed the 38-year old worker Hristos Doskoris, father of 4 children. The autopsy report will be handed to the prosecutor in charge of the case. The 6 employees arrested, among them members of LARKO administration board and two engineers supervisors of the shift, were freed after giving their statements. The three workers, who suffered burns are being treated at Lebadeia hospital. Hristos Doskoris funeral service will be held on Monday afternoon, in Malaisina.

    The Development Ministry political leadership have expressed their grief for the death of Hristos Doskoris and the injury of three workers in the tragic accident. All actions for the commencement of procedures to fully investigate the cause of the accident were taken as soon as the Ministry was notified on the accident.

    Furthermore, the leadership of the Development Ministry called LARKO administration board to take all actions to ensure immediate financial aid to the family of the dead and make all efforts to alleviate his family from the impacts of his death. âThe tragic accident is not offered for petty partisan exploitationâ, he said.

    Development undersecretary Ioannis Bougas said that all were shocked by the tragic accident adding that priority should be placed on substantial support to the victim's family and investigations on the conditions and causes of the accident.
