  • [01] Epidemic Flare-Up at the Gate

A week after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the aid delivery has started getting the Haitian's hopes up. However, the threat of diseases is lurking, with doctors fearing an epidemic flare-up. The US army has begun airdropping food and water supplies into earthquake-hit Haiti. Some 14,000 ready-to-eat meals and 15,000 litres of water were dropped north-east of the capital Port-au-Prince, the US said. Since the venture was viewed as successful, the USA is considering airdrops across Haiti. In the meantime, security concerns are rising among the survivors and the rescue workers. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon suggested the peace-keeping force in Haiti be beefed up with another 3500 men.

    Obama's Initiatives Welcomed

Barack Obama's handling has been warmly welcomed.

A CBS poll suggested that the vast majority of the respondents (80%) gave a positive rating to the US President's initiatives, while only 8% disagreed with his handlings.

In the meantime, his popularity rocketed up to 50% from 46% last week.
