[01] Y. Aggelou Released on Bail

Yiannis Aggelou, director of former prime-minister K. Karamanlis, was released on â¬400.000 bail and banned from leaving the country after his long testimony on the Batopedi Monastery transfer of land case. The main opposition ND party strongly reacted to Court ruling while ND spokesman Panos Panagiotopoulos said: "this decision violates the principles of Code of Criminal Procedure Code and Criminal Law".

"PASOK Conspiracy Culminates"

Yiannis Aggelou testimony lasted about 11 hours. He is charged with moral complicity regarding his involvement in the Batopedi Monastery transfer of land case.

"All realize at this point that PASOK is neither interested in revealing the truth nor in investigating in depth till the end" said Panos Panagiotopoulos and added: "PASOK is only interested in misleading public opinion, fabricate guilty and distract Greek people attention from its huge mistakes and omissions that led the country to tripartite monitoring".

In his statement Anastasios Nerantzis, in charge of ND Justice sector, spoke of culmination of PASOK conspiracy against the ND party.

"Apart from the material of the case which is already known, no further evidence has emerged to justify change in stand in the whole case. Mr. Aggelou treatment raises questions, as it is a treatment for admitted or proven by multiple evidence crimes and concerns other defendants for other crimes", said Anastasios Nerantzis.

And concludes: "It is clear that we are facing culmination of conspiracy fabricated by PASOK against ND with the setting up of inquiry committees, who do not find anything and passing laws fitted on the construction or blackening witnesses".

Defense lawyers maintained: "It was a statement on a charge which according to our opinion legally is groundless and unproved. The charge was based on Mr. Doukas phone call, whose content was misinterpreted and finally changed into an entirely arbitrary charge".

His lawyers said: "Mr. Aggelou is the first one who wants truth and logic to prevail and justice attributed though far from any kind of expediencies. Justice can not function under terms or and threat of publicity".

[02] G. Papandreou: "Cyprus President Proposals One Step Ahead"

Resolution of Cyprus issue is a precondition for full normalization of Greek-Turkish relations said Prime-minister George Papandreou after his talks with Cyprus President Dimitris Hristofias in Larnaca, on Wednesday. Mr. Papandreou expressed his support to Mr. Hristofias latest package of proposals, which the two governments agreed to jointly project to the international community. Mr. Papandreou will fly to Israel for talks with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu and the Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas.

"End of Cyprus Occupation Is the Target"

George Papandreou sent a clear message to both Ankara and Turkish-Cypriot leadership to study carefully the proposals the Cyprus President has laid at the negotiations table.

In his statements at Larnaca airport, after his talks with Mr. Hristofias, the Greek Prime-minister stressed: "the Cyprus President, with his package of proposals, is a step ahead in the efforts for the resolution of the Cyprus issue".

Mr. Papandreou reconfirmed that the Cyprus issue is top priority of Greece's foreign policy. "The resolution of the Cyprus issue is a precondition for full normalization of Greek-Turkish relations".

He also reiterated that solution of Cyprus question should provide for reunification of Cyprus, end Turkish occupation and be based on UN resolutions and EU principals.

On his part, Dimitris Hristofias said during his talks with G. Papandreou they agreed on coordination of efforts at diplomatic level between Athens-Nicosia for the projection of Cyprus proposals.

[03] Investigations in the Dark

The antiterrorist agency is carrying out intensive investigations to find any evidence that could track the killers- who according to test results are members of Revolutionary Sect- of journalist Socratis Golias, 37. The journalist's wife is expected to give her statement most possibly today. Police believe her statement will help them build a clearer picture on the death trap organized by the terrorists and are also waiting for a proclamation of the Revolutionary Sect to answer questions regarding the selection of their target.

Furthermore police are trying to collect visual material from the site the getaway car was found burned as well as the site from where it was stolen last Saturday.
