Sunday, 08 August 2010 12:32
A 79-year-old man suffering from symptoms of cephalitis - an
inflammation of the brain usually caused by a virus - has died in
Thessaloniki at the Special Diseases Hospital. He was one of the more
serious cases that doctors had referred to. For the time being, his
death cannot be attributed to the West Nile Virus, which is linked to
bites from infected mosquitoes, as tests will be conducted. At the same
time, health authorities have taken all the necessary measures, while
recommending that people also take steps to protect themselves.

[02] Environment minister rules out sale of PPC plants
Saturday, 07 August 2010 21:13
In a recent press interview, the Environment, Energy and Climate Change
minister, Tina Birbili, has reiterated that one of the most important
structural changes for Greece is the deregulation of the energy market.
She ruled out the sale of any Public Power Corporation (PPC) plants,
while promoting the best interests of the public with the participation
of private investors in the production of electrical energy. At the
same time, Birbili invited trade unionists in the industry to a
dialogue with the government, following their warnings of dynamic
opposition and industrial action.
