EU Commission president Jose Barroso expressed his support to the Greek governments efforts and his solidarity to Greek people after his meeting with Greek Prime-minister George Papandreou, in Brussels. Greece is on the right track regarding fiscal figures and developments in the labour market said Jose Barroso and expressed certainty that the Eurogroup would approve the third installment of the rescue package worth â¬6.5 million. On his part, the Prime-minister stressed that Greece is at a stage of historical reforms targeted to achieve a viable, competitive and fair economy. The permanent rescue package will be brought up at the Eurogroup meeting with the participation of George Papakonstantinou and IMF chief Dominique Straus Khan. Another issue to be brought up is the European bond which will be also discussed at the Ecofin meeting, in Brussels tomorrow.

In the meantime, Eurogroup president Zean Claude Yunker and Italian Finance Minister Julio Tremonti, in a joint article in Financial Times newspaper reintroduced the idea for issue of European bond, a suggestion made by George Papandreou long ago. Germany, however, objects while EU Commissioner for Monetary Affairs Olli Rehn describes the proposal attractive but stressed that enforcement of European financial stability mechanism is more important.

IMF chief Dominique Straus Khan, who arrives in Athens tomorrow, is expected to ask the Eurogroup for a more robust rescue fund and extension of the European Central Bank state bonds' purchase program for countries facing problems in order to ease markets.
