    [01] DEFENSE MINISTER TO EMBARK ON TWO-DAY VISIT TO GERMANY TOMORROW

    Athens, February 16 (MPA)

    Greece's Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos will be in Germany tomorrow for a two-day formal visit.

    During his stay in Bonn, mr.Tsochatzopoulos will meet with his German counterpart Folker Rue and will attend working meetings with German Defense Ministry officials.

    The Greek Minister will have talks over issues concerning bilateral relations, the Greek-Turkish issues, the Cyprus issue, the developments in the Balkan region and the Alliance's eastward expansion.

    Also, mr.Tsochatzopoulos will meet with members of the German-Hellenic Parliamentary Group and leading members of the Greek community in Germany.

    [02] SWEDEN'S FEDERATION OF GREEK ASSOCIATIONS WRAPS UP 13TH CONVENTION

    Stockholm, February 16 (MPA)

    The two-day session of the 13th Convention of Greek Associaitons and Communities in Sweden came to a close today, having enjoyed a marked success with 130 delegates participating.

    Amongt he issues discussed was the future of Sweden's greek community, in Stockholm alone there are about 25,000 Greeks and the plight of unewmployment which is of a high rate among immigrants.

    [03] LABOUR MINISTER TO BE RECEIVED BY PREMIER TOMORROW

    The Minister of Labour and Social Security Miltiades Papaioannou will meet with the Prime Minister Kostas Simitis tomorrow where the two men will discuss the recent amendments tabled in Parliament by the Minister of National Economy, Yiannos Papantoniou. Specifically, Mr. Papantoniou proposed that all reserves from the social security treasury of funds be deposited with the Bank of Greece. As such, the country's largest labor union, the General Confederation of Greek Workers, has already voiced its resounding reaction.

    [04] TEACHERS TO EXTEND STRIKE INTO NEXT WEEK, FIFTH IN A ROW

    Thessaloniki, February 16 MPA)

    For the fifth consecutive week, the country's secondary education teachers will continue their strikes and most high schools throughout the country will remain closed.

    The teachers' national union OLME will conduct a mass rally in Thessaloniki tomorrow, in front of the White Tower, an event that will coincide with the Education Minister Gerasimos Arsenis' visit. Mr. Arsenis will meet with the deans of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

    [05] DEFENSE MINISTRY STAFF TO OBSERVE FOUR-HOUR WORK STOPPAGE TOMORROW

    Employees of the Ministry of National Defense will conduct a four-hour work stoppage tomorrow, to be followed by a protest rally in Thessaloniki's Third Army Corps.

    The Ministry's staff are demanding additional benefits in the form of danger- and insanitary-pay, as afforded to those employed at the Local Administration offices.

    Also, the workers have stated that they will conduct a 24-hour strike the following Wednesday, a move that will up the ante of their mobilizations.

    [06] F.R.Y.: OPPOSITION DEMANDS THAT MEDIA BE FREED FROM STATE CONTROL

    Belgrade, February 16 (MPA)

    The Federal Yugoslav Republic's tripartite coalition opposition Zajedno continues its mobilizations, demanding that the country's media be freed from the government's control.

    Zajedno has warned that if the state does not oblige by March 9, then the opposition will continue its mobilizations and protests.

    Yesterday, Zajedno supporters conducted a massive rally in Belgrade's central plaza.

    [07] US SECRETARY OF STATE MADELEINE ALBRIGHT CURRENTLY IN ROME

    The United States Secretaryof State Madeleine Albright is currently in Rome, a visit that falls within the framework of her contacts over NATO's expansion.

    Upon her arrival, Ms.Albright stated that the State Deprtment wishes to reassure Russia that the Alliabnce's eastward expansion aims at achieveing stabilty in cetrnal and eastern Europe.
