    Thessaloniki, 04/04/1998 (M.P.A.)

The Austrian tourists, who are expected to visit Greece this year, are estimated to be 600.000, confirming the upward trend that began to form since 1997.

It should be reminded that according to data provided by the Greek Tourist Organization, the tourists from Austria, who visited Greece in 1997 were 570.000, which is an increase of 11,5% compared to 1996.

Those facts become more impressive if it is taken under consideration that the total number of Austrians, who spent their summer vacations last year to a foreign country were 1,3 million, meaning that half of them came to Greece.

The majority of the Austrian tourists namely, 330.476 people, traveled to Greece with chartered flights, while 112.375 preferred regular flights and 125.000 came by car.

    Strasbourg, 04/04/1998 (M.P.A.)

The executions of people regardless of where they take place, in the Arab Emirates or the United States, are equally shocking stressed Greek Euro- deputy Anna Karamanou speaking on the occasion of the death sentence imposed on Abu Jamal, a former journalist and member of the organization "Black Panthers", who was found guilty for the murder of a police officer after a trial the objectivity of which has been strongly disputed by international non governmental organizations.

Jamal is being held in a Pennsylvania prison in the United States where the recent deterioration of the living conditions for the inmates have led many of them to a hunger strike. On the occasion of this development, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on the United States to respect the basic human rights completely and review Jamal's sentence, pointing out that the execution of the death sentence imposed on him has so far been avoided thanks to international protests.
