[01] THE STRIKE OF THE CUSTOMS EMPLOYEES HAS ENDED

Thessaloniki, 21/11/1998 (MPA) The three-day strike of the customs
employees ended this morning after causing serious problems to the market's
supply with fuel.
The customs employees are protesting against the abolition of their social
security fund and they threaten with new rotating five-day strikes that
will start on November 30 in case their demand is not met.
[02] TENS OF VILLAGES REMAIN CUT OFF DUE TO THE SNOW IN NORTHERN GREECE

Thessaloniki, 21/11/1998 (MPA) The weather will improve temporarily
across the country today. However, according to the National Weather Bureau
forecast, the weather conditions will worsen again tomorrow afternoon.
Tens of villages remain cut off in the prefectures of Kozani, Kastoria,
Grevena and Ioannina due to the heavy snowfall in the region. Cars in the
regional road network move only with non-skid chains. The temperature in
northern Greece is very low and in certain regions has dropped below
zero.
The right-wing main opposition party of New Democracy maintains that the
state is not functioning any more.

[03] THE CONFRONTATION BETWEEN ITALY AND TURKEY OVER OCALAN CONTINUES

Rome, 21/11/1998 (MPA) Turkey requested NATO's assistance in its open
confrontation with Italy over the issue of the extradition of Kurdish PKK
leader Abdullah Ocalan.
After the Rome Court of Appeals decision to place Ocalan under house arrest
and to rule against the international arrest warrant issued for him by
Turkey, Turkish prime minister Mesut Yilmaz spoke about an eternal
hostility with Italy.
The Italian prime minister Massimo D'Alema stated that the court decisions
will be fully implemented.
